ARTIST'S
STATEMENT
Passion
is the foundation of my art. Upon this foundation, I have built
a gallery of personal creativity. This gallery houses not only
my passions, but my beliefs. On my walls is an ever evolving
exhibit of: BLACK & WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY.
My
interests take me to the days of old. This is reflected in my
work. Most of my images are from a simpler time: old buildings,
lighthouses, old boats, rivers and waterfalls, and scenes that
reflect very little modern life.
To
create my art, I start with the very best image possible.
Sometimes I shoot over 10 to 20 shots of the same subject from
different angles with different settings. Next, I manipulate the
image using appropriate computer software, creating a high
contrast black & white piece of art. Finally, I print the
finished product on canvas. It is then mounted and framed. When
completed, my black & white images that are printed on canvas
often have the appearance of a pen and ink drawing or a
painting.
For
those who prefer color photography, I have a series of work that
incorporates both black & white photography with just a splash
of color. In this series, the subject is not “painted”, as is
with most other photographers who show similar work. I start
with a color image and remove color where I do not want it,
leaving the subject bright, vibrant, and in its natural colors
against a black & white background. Again, when this is mounted
on canvas, it is often mistaken for a painting.
My work
is constantly evolving. As I continue to explore and stretch, my
work takes on new dimensions. It matures as I do. However, I
still believe in simpler times, times that were slower. And
times that reflected a more innocent period. I think my art will
always touch this part of my heart, mind and soul.
